Meeting Venue: MDS
This is just a quick note to clarify that we’re back to meeting at the Media Design Schools, fortnightly on Sunday lunchtimes. Checkout meetup.com for the next meeting time: http://gamedev.meetup.com/155/
First meeting for 2008
We’re meeting this Sunday 13 Jan at 12noon. But with a temporary new venue for this meeting: the Music & Audio Institute of NZ at 150 Victoria St. Please be there at 12noon sharp as we need to be let into the building.
Call Stephen on 0274438125 if you need to be let in. There is often good parking across the road on Graham St.
Christmas Break
We’re not meeting up officially over the Christmas, Summer break as many of us are out of town or at the beach, and our venue the Media Design School is closed.
Watch this space for notice of our first meeting for 2008, likely to be on Sun 13 January.
Monthly Mega-Meetings
In addition to our weekly Sunday meetings, we’ve decided to hold larger meetings on the first Sunday of each month where we also talking about, bring along and play our favourite games or projects. Let’s face it, we’re not just interested in making games, we also like to play them.
This also allows some of our irregular members who only come along now and then to know that there is one meeting a month where there will be a good turnout of people and something for even non-technical contributors to do.
Join up: Sun 22 July 12noon
It was great to meet so many passionate and skilled NZ game developers, artists, etc at G3 this week. It was also cool to see professional game developers sharing ideas, contacts and support with hobbyists, students and those wanting to get into the gaming industry professionally. There are lots of skilled people out there, the challenge is how to get us all working together.
G3 Report
About 6 of us from Auckland Game Works attended NZGDA’s Games, Girls and Graphics conference at the Auckland Town Hall. It was great that the gaming industry actually got together, and opened its doors to those wanting to get into the industry too. Here’s some views on what the conference was like.

Wanted: 3D artists
Two of our key 3D modellers are tied up for the next few weeks, but we want to get our game finished by 13 July. So - are there any other 3D artist out there who want to see their creations brought to life in a game?
It should be fairly simple, we mostly need 2-3 different enemy space ships. You’ve probably already designed some. Ideally, they should look like they belong to the same alien race as our existing main enemy fighter:
Of Textures & Tunnels
The elements of the game are really starting to come together. There’s a bit of activity on our Google Groups site too.
